This is what good wine from the Ribolla grape tastes like

The Ribolla, or Ribolla Gialla in full, grape produces white wines with a lively acidity and a somewhat nutty flavor. They are lean and fresh and have a modest, restrained aroma.

You can find the Ribolla in the far northeast of Italy, in the Friuli region. There, it grows on the steep hills of the districts of Collio and Colli Orientali, on the border with Slovenia. It also grows just across the border. Winemakers there call it Rebula. It is a very old grape variety. It appears in documents of the Catholic Church as early as the thirteenth century, in the same region where it is still planted today.

The Robola grape grows in Greece. On the Greek island of Kefalonia, they make robust, mineral, and lemon-fresh quality white wines from it. For a long time, it was thought that this was the same grape as the Ribolla. It was believed to have been brought from Greece to Slovenia by the Venetians in the thirteenth century. A nice story. Perhaps too good to be true. Because DNA analysis has shown that the Ribolla and Robola are not related.
