Roter Veltliner produces refined and complex wines with powerful acidity and delicate aromas. Quality wines that can often be aged for a long time. They have the freshness of apples and rhubarb with all kinds of ripe tropical fruit.
The Roter Veltliner is a very old Austrian grape variety. It is not widely planted, so you have to do some searching. You will find the best Roter Veltliners in Lower Austria. Although the name suggests otherwise, it is not related to the Grüner Veltliner. However, the potent Roter Veltliner has several 'children'.
The Rotgipfler, for example, is the result of a cross between the Roter Veltliner and the Traminer. An affair between the Roter Veltliner and the Silvaner produced the Neuburger. And from a later, short-lived love affair with that same Silvaner came the Frühroter Veltliner.
We currently have two wines made from the Roter Veltliner grape in our range. You can view our Roter Veltliner wines here.
