The Blaufränkisch grape produces fruity, vibrant red wines with a robust aroma of ripe cherries and berries. They have a distinctive and recognizable character. Expressive, yet not heavy and without excessive tannins.
The name Blaufränkisch dates back to the early 19th century. Napoleonic soldiers, who marched through Central Europe, were fond of the wine. They paid the local winegrowers with blue French army banknotes. The Blaufränkisch grape is a true native of Central Europe. It is particularly widely planted in the Austrian Burgenland and neighboring Hungarian Sopron. The mineral soil of the vineyards in this region gives them a specific "earthy character." This earthy character must be tasted to be understood. In Southern Burgenland, the Blaufränkisch grape has been awarded its own Eisenberg DAC. This is an Austrian "quality seal" that guarantees the quality of the wine according to strict regulations.
We currently have six wines made from the Blaufränkisch grape in our range. You can view our Blaufränkisch wines here.
