The Bual grape grows on Madeira and is considered one of the most important grapes used in the island's wines. Madeira made from Bual is usually relatively sweet, though not the sweetest Madeira.

The Bual (also Boal) is called Malvasia Fina on mainland Portugal. Besides Madeira, it also grows in the Douro, near Lisbon, and in the Dão. Malvasia is a very old grape variety, likely originating in Greece. Today, it is grown in various varieties, primarily in Spain and Italy.
