The Merwah grape is found only in Lebanon. It is closely related to the Sémillon grape. This grape was likely brought to Lebanon a long time ago, as you can still find it there. The renowned Chateau Musar makes a wine from it.
Château Musar's white wine is a blend of Obaideh and Merwah grapes. According to the Lebanese themselves, these are indigenous grape varieties from the Bekaa Valley. Scientific research suggests they are closely related to Sémillon and Chardonnay. Over time, they have fully adapted to the Bekaa climate. As a result, they are no longer entirely the same. It is unclear who brought these grape varieties here. It could have been French monks in the nineteenth century, or even much earlier: Crusaders.
We currently have two wines made from the Merwah grape in our range. You can view our Merwah wines here.
