This is what good wine from the Tintilia del Molise grape tastes like

Tintilia del Molise is a fairly rare grape used to make red wine in the southern Italian region of Molise. Tintilia del Molise wines are generally fairly full-bodied, with plenty of ripe dark fruit such as cherry, blackcurrant and plum.

There are stories that Tintilia reached the Molise region from Spain in the eighteenth century. The name certainly sounds Spanish, but no one has been able to establish which Spanish grape it might be - a close relative of Tintilia has not (yet) been found. To avoid confusion with Tintilias from other regions, in Molise they therefore simply call it Tintilia del Molise.

Most winemakers blend it with other grapes, such as Montepulciano. Only a handful of winemakers press a wine from pure Tintilia del Molise.
