Grüner Veltliner is by far the most widely planted grape variety in Austria. It produces dry, sparkling, often fruity, and sometimes slightly peppery white wines with exuberantly fresh aromas of green apple, blossom, and gooseberry. Sommeliers love it because it pairs easily with a wide variety of dishes.
Grüner Veltliners from the steep vineyards along the Danube in the Wachau region are the most highly regarded. In the Wachau region, there are three varieties: Steinfeder, Federspiel, and Smaragd. The simplest, early-harvested wines are given the Steinfeder label. The Smaragd is the richest, most opulent of the three.
Beautiful Grüner Veltliners are also produced in other districts along the Danube, such as Kremstal and Kamptal. They are among the best white wines in the world and compete with the great white Burgundies in international wine competitions. Knoll, Prager, and Bründlmayer are among the best Grüner Veltliner producers in the country. You can also find excellent—and often somewhat less expensive—Grüner Veltliners in Burgenland and the Weinviertel region.
We currently have six wines made from the Grüner Veltliner grape in our range. You can view our Grüner Veltliner wines here.
