The André grape is a Czechoslovakian cross from 1961. It produces bright red wines. Fruity, elegant and sometimes a bit earthy, with little tannin. The André is mainly found in the southern Czech Moravia. Sometimes in Slovakia, occasionally in Germany.

After World War II, the Czech Republic (then Czechoslovakia) actively pursued a policy of crossbreeding grapes. The efforts were mainly focused on breeding grapes resistant to diseases. The André, like the Zweigelt, is a cross between Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent. But what is the 'father' of the Zweigelt is the 'mother' of the André and vice versa. The André is now mainly found in the southern Czech Moravia. Sometimes in Slovakia, occasionally in Germany.
