This is what good wine from the Kékfrankos grape tastes like

The Kékfrankos grape (in Austria: Blaufränkisch) produces fruity, vibrant red wines with aromas of ripe cherries and berries and a hint of spice and pepper. These are characterful, spicy wines, not heavy and not overly tannic. It is often blended with other grapes to create beautiful cuvées, such as the famous Hungarian Bull's Blood.

Kékfrankos also produces beautiful wines as a varietal, which, when matured in oak, can be kept for several years. Kékfrankos likely originated in Austria. It is widely planted in Burgenland, as well as in neighboring Hungarian Sopron. Fine wines are also made from it in southern Hungary.

The name Blaufränkisch dates back to the early 19th century. Napoleonic soldiers who marched through Central Europe were fond of the wine. They paid local winemakers with blue banknotes from the French army. In Germany, it is called "Lemburger." In the Czech Republic and Slovakia, it is often consumed as 'Frankovka Modra.'
