Château Kefraya is one of the most successful Lebanese wineries. It is a true family business, founded shortly after the Second World War by the Butros family. Château Kefraya manages 300 hectares of vineyards and presses wine in its own cellar exclusively from its own grapes - always blends of well-known international grape varieties, but with a character all its own, typical of the Lebanese Bekaa Valley.

Château Kefraya was founded in 1946 by the Lebanese Butros family. Michel de Bustros built a small castle on a hill in the western Bekaa Valley, which the Romans had already used as a lookout post thousands of years earlier. On the slopes of the hill he laid out terraced vineyards. In the soil he found slate, limestone, sand and gravel. In the 1950s he pressed his first wines from them.
Château Kefraya now manages 300 hectares of vineyards, planted with international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Chardonnay, Viognier, Carménère and Marselan. It has always been the Butros family's philosophy not to buy grapes from growers - the family manages its own vineyards and presses its wines from its own grapes in its own cellar. This has allowed them, from the start, to control the quality of the wines.
Château Kefraya makes only blends of different grape varieties - that too is part of the Château's philosophy. In the words of Michel de Bustros: 'Craftsmanship is the result of blending. Just as a painter combines colors in a painting, so the winemaker combines grapes to create a harmonious wine with a character of its own.'
Because the family manages its own vineyards, they have always paid attention to the quality of nature, which is essential to them for a sustainable business. That's why they don't irrigate and work practically organically (though not certified).
Château Kefraya's approach is successful. It now exports to 40 countries. Renowned wine critic Robert Parker is enthusiastic, and shining medals are also regularly won at international wine competitions. We currently have three wines from Château Kefraya in our range.
