Vinarija Aleksandrović is a family winery near Topola, in Serbia's Šumadija region, at the foot of the locally famous Oplenac hill. Vinarija Aleksandrović is regarded as a pioneer of modern Serbian winemaking and is one of the best wineries in Serbia. Its calling card is Trijumf, a white wine made to the original recipe of the royal winery of the Serbian royal family, the Karađorđević dynasty.

Winegrowing around Topola has a long history. Vines already grew here in Roman times, and later, under the Karađorđević dynasty, the area became Serbia's most important wine region. The royal family's mausoleum still stands on Oplenac hill, and the royal winery stood at its foot.
The Aleksandrović family has been growing grapes here for four generations. Great-grandfather Miloš Aleksandrović planted the first vineyards in the village of Vinča in 1903. He was one of the founders of the Venčac wine cooperative, the oldest in Serbia. After decades of war and interruptions, the family restarted winegrowing in the 1990s.
The current owner, Božidar Aleksandrović, studied agriculture. In the early 1990s he started with just two hectares of vineyards and a cellar of sixty square metres. It was one of the first private wineries in Serbia after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The turning point came in 1992. Živan Tadić, the former cellar master of the royal winery, who had since emigrated to Canada, heard that the Aleksandrović family was reviving the wine tradition of Oplenac. He sent Božidar 111 handwritten pages about winemaking at the royal winery, including the original recipe for 'Trijumf'. This historic cuvée was once presented to several European royal courts. That same year, Božidar made the first Trijumf.
From 2000 onwards the winery grew rapidly. Božidar systematically bought vineyards and farmland around Topola. In 2008 Vinarija Aleksandrović became the first Serbian winery to make a sparkling wine using the traditional method, with a second fermentation in the bottle. In 2013 Božidar founded the association of winemakers of the Šumadija geographical indication, which he chaired as its first president until 2017.
Vinarija Aleksandrović now has around 85 hectares of vineyards around Topola and Oplenac. All vineyard work is done by hand, and the winery uses only its own grapes. These are mainly international varieties: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. There is also the Serbian Prokupac, a native red grape that is attracting more and more attention. Vinarija Aleksandrović's total production is around 300,000 bottles a year.
The range comprises some 23 wines. At its heart is the Trijumf family. The classic Trijumf is made from 85 percent Sauvignon Blanc, complemented by Pinot Blanc and Riesling, following the royal recipe. There are several versions, such as Trijumf Selection and Trijumf Gold. Trijumf Terroir is a blend of mainly Chardonnay that is aged for six months in French barriques. There is also a Trijumf Rosé made from Pinot Noir.
The sparkling wines of the Trijumf range have won international awards. In 2015 Trijumf Noir and Trijumf Chardonnay won gold at the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships in London.
The red wines include Regent Reserve, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and the flagship Rodoslov Grand Reserve. Vožd, named after the title of Karađorđe, the founder of the dynasty, is another red. With Prokupac Kameničarka the winery shows what the native Prokupac grape can do. Other well-known wines are Harizma, Oplen and Vizija.
Vinarija Aleksandrović has been active in wine tourism for more than ten years and attracts 12,000 to 15,000 visitors a year. The winery has fourteen rooms and two cottages with a swimming pool among the vineyards, where visitors can taste, eat and stay overnight.
