Who would have thought a meeting on a Caribbean island would lead to special, natural Rieslings from the Moselle? Dirk Niepoort of the well-known Niepoort winery from the Douro met Philippe Kettern from the Moselle. He tasted the wines, and Dirk saw potential in the wines and in Philippe. Weinhaus Thanisch is a German family business almost three hundred years old. The estate lies right in the middle of the Moselle region, directly on the river. Jörg Thanisch has led the business for the past fifteen years. He makes lovely Rieslings, but also very fine Weissburgunders and Spätburgunders. He lets his wines ferment on their own yeasts, which takes longer and gives the wines more depth. Will you be in the area soon?
