Abruzzo is a small Italian wine region in the center of Italy. Abruzzo is best known for the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, a red wine from the Montepulciano grape. Most wine in Abruzzo is made from the white Trebianno grape.

Abbruzo is located in the center of Italy, on the Adriatic coast near Pescara. Although the wines are generally not of spectacular quality, the mild climate and south-facing slopes right on the coast offer good conditions for wine growing. But Abruzzo has never gone for the medals and its wine has traditionally been drunk mainly by the locals. Of course there are exceptions that confirm the rule. Winemakers who have raised their heads above the rest of the region and export their wines far beyond the borders.
The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is the most famous wine from Abbruzo and it can reach a very decent level. It is made from the Montepulciano grape - not to be confused with the wine town of Montepulciano. Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is soft and has pleasant tannins. This appeals to a wide audience. A fruity rosé is made in Abruzzo under the name Cerasuolo, also from the Montepulciano grape.
