The Umbria wine region, in central Italy, is best known for the white Orbieto wines made here. Although the Umbria wine region is not one of the top Italian regions, this does not alter the fact that striking wines are made there, such as the Sagrantino di Montefalco.

The Umbrian wine region is best known for the wine from Orbieto, which is sold far beyond the Italian borders. Orbieto is often made sweet or semi-sweet from not too exciting white grapes such as Trebbiano, Canaiolo Bianco and Grechetto. The quality does not always exceed that of 'correct'. In recent years, dry Orbietos have become increasingly popular and they can sometimes be surprisingly good.
Less known but just as interesting are the vineyards in Umbria where red wine is made, such as the vineyards of Torgiano and Montefalco. Torgiano made a splash in the 1980s, but because there was only one producer in this district, that fame turned out to be quite fleeting and we hear little about it nowadays.
Montefalco, on the other hand, is on the rise. Special, dry red wines and sweet Passitos are made from the local Sagrantino grape. Colli Martani and Colli Amerini are also promising, emerging appellations for good Italian wines. Nevertheless, Umbria will have to settle for the time being in the shadow of big brother Tuscany. We currently have one wines from Umbria in our range. You can view all our wines from Umbria here.
