This is what good wine from the Smederevka grape tastes like

Smederevka is an ancient, originally Bulgarian grape variety that produces friendly, accessible white wines. Over time it has spread across the Balkans.

The Bulgarians call it Dimyat. In North Macedonia and Serbia they call it Smederevka. How old exactly the grape is remains unknown. There is a story that crusaders brought it from the Egyptian city of Damietta to Bulgaria, but it is highly uncertain whether that story is true.

What is true is that you can find Smederevka/Dimyat in vineyards throughout almost all of Bulgaria, most of all along the Black Sea coast. It also makes regular appearances in North Macedonia and Serbia.

It is the parent of the Misket grape, also a typically Bulgarian variety. In Bulgaria there are a few variants of Dimyat: Dimyat Cherven (red Dimyat, which despite its pink skin gives white wine), Dimyat Cheren (which does give red wine), and Dimyat Edar.
