The oldest wine appellation in the world is not in France, but here in Eastern Hungary. In the seventeenth century, the French king Louis XIV christened his favorite sweet Tokaji wine "Wine of Kings, King of Wines". The Hungarian Tokaj was at that time the most expensive wine in the world. In recent years, dry white wines from Tokaj have been on the rise. Dry Furmint is the most popular. Another trend is the Late Harvest Tokaji. Freshly made noble sweet wine from late harvested grapes.

The way in which the sweet Tokaj is made is unique. The juice of the 'nobly rotten' grapes is pressed under the pressure of its own weight. Usually the juice of the Furmint and the Hárslevelű is used. The very sweet 'eszencia' is collected in tubs. The tubs (puttonyos in Hungarian) are added to barrels with semi-sweet wine. The more puttonyos, the sweeter the wine. The maximum is 6 puttonyos. But the sweetest, and also most expensive Tokaj is the Eszencia. Pure noble sweet wine that has not been mixed.
In recent years, dry white wines from Tokaj have been on the rise. Dry Furmint is the most popular. Another trend is Late Harvest Tokaji. Freshly made noble sweet wine from late harvested grapes. Accessible and not too heavy. The grapes allowed in Tokaj are all white: Furmint, Hárslevelű, Sárgamuskotály, Zéta, Kövérszőlő and Kabar. We currently have seven wines from Tokaj in our range. You can view all our wines from Tokaj here.
