Saperavi
This Saperavi from Chateau Buera is a bit atypical. The winemaker has chosen to harvest early. As a result, the style is a bit fresher and lighter than we are used to from this grape. And with only 12 percent alcohol, which we also like.
Dark purple-red juice. That does meet all expectations. But in a Beaujolais-like style with tight fruit of berries and cherries. Wine with a bite. Very modern actually, although it is made in the oldest conceivable way: in qvevri. The way they have been doing it in Georgia for 8,000 years.

Kakheti

Kakheti in eastern Georgia is by far the country's most important wine region. More than two thirds of all Georgian wine comes from here. The area is best known for the red Saperavi grape and the white Rkatsiteli, and for the centuries-old tradition of making wine in qvevri, large clay vessels buried in the ground. Since 2013 this method has been on UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage.
