Telavi Marani Saperavi Qvevri

Telavi Marani Saperavi Qvevri

Georgia
2023 Georgia | Kakheti
Saperavi
Typical Georgian. Made from the Saperavi grape - the red pride of the country. Aged in large earthenware amphorae (qvevri) in the cellar of the winery. The oldest way of making wine and not protected by UNESCO for nothing.
Juicy and drinkable. Blackberry jam and licorice. Strong and slightly alcoholic, but it diminishes when it rests in the cellar for a while. Because you don't have to be in a hurry with this wine. The relaxed Georgians rarely have that.

Kakheti

Kakheti in eastern Georgia is by far the country's most important wine region. More than two thirds of all Georgian wine comes from here. The area is best known for the red Saperavi grape and the white Rkatsiteli, and for the centuries-old tradition of making wine in qvevri, large clay vessels buried in the ground. Since 2013 this method has been on UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage.
