They are not so well known, the wines from Savoie. But they are interesting. In the French Alps, near the border with Switzerland, local grapes grow such as Rousette, Jacquère and Mondeuse that you will not find elsewhere. It gives the unknown Savoie a very unique character.

Most of the wine from Savoie is white, about 70% of the harvest. Half of the vineyards are planted with Jacquère, which produces fresh, friendly and pure white wines. A real specialty of the region. Just like the white Roussette. It is suspected that the Roussette is related to the Furmint, which made the Hungarian region of Tokaj famous in the Middle Ages. Other white grapes that you can find in Savoie are the Molette, Verdesse, Chasselas, the rare Mondeuse Blanche and the not at all rare Chardonnay.
The blue Mondeuse produces the most interesting red wines from Savoie. Peppery, robust and characteristic. This grape is probably related to the Refosco that is popular in Friuli in Northern Italy and in Slovenia. Other grape varieties from Savoie are the Gamay and the Persan.
With barely 2,000 hectares of vineyards, Savoie is one of the smallest wine regions in France. They meander through the mountains. The lion's share of the wine is sold as Vin de Savoie. There are a few municipalities that are allowed to put their own name on the label. Apremont and Seyssel are the best known. We currently have one wines from Savoie in our range.
