The Mosel is one of the best-known and most renowned wine regions in Germany. It is the terrain of the Riesling. It produces unique, very fine white wines here. This is all due to the vineyards of schist and limestone on the steep slopes of the Mosel river. And the long, warm autumn. The Rieslings from the Mosel are lively and delicate, crisp with flakes of complex minerality. A concept for the enthusiast.

The hills and slopes covered with vines along the Mosel and its tributaries the Saar and Ruwer were already designated as a wine region by the Romans. The first and now internationally most famous wine region in Germany.
The vines are very comfortable here. The warmth lingers nicely in the river valleys; the roots are kept warm by dark slate, limestone and other mineral treasures. Winter is not dominant and gives autumn all the space it needs, sometimes even lasting until November. An exceptionally long ripening season that the Riesling grapes know how to use for comforting sweetness and stimulating acidity in special 'late harvest' wines. In addition, this grape knows how to extract minerality from the soil like no other.
Especially from Koblenz towards the southwest along the Mosel, the slopes are dramatically steep. Read: high production costs and incredibly difficult to work, sometimes only with a monorail. The pinnacle is Bremmer Calmont with a slope of 68%. Because of this steepness, the roots also have to work extra hard and root deeply. This is how they reach the mineral riches in the soil. And good for us, because they pass on this minerality to their grapes.
The classic Rieslings from this region, especially along the Mosel, can be recognized by their striking lightness. The sweet and the sour balance each other harmoniously. Lively and delicate, crispy with flakes of complex minerality. And sometimes even a bit petillant. They are considered among the best wines of Germany. The terroir along the Saar and Ruwer is slightly less impressive, but still top for more body, robustness and strong fresh acids.
But there is more to the Mosel than just Riesling. Rivaner, fine wines from the Weissburgunder, also fine Grauer Burgunders, Auxerrois and even Chardonnay do very well, especially on the chalky soils. Also the Elbling, an unusual grape, which has been cultivated here for 2000 years. Only in Saxony no one is surprised by this grape. In the Mosel the Elbling is processed into uncomplicated, fruity still or sparkling wines. For a few decades now red wine has also been available here. Small quantities, of Spätburgunder and Dornfelder. We currently have eight wines from Mosel in our range. You can view all our wines from Mosel here.
